Inclusion at MFN

At Marches Family Network, inclusion is:

  • Feeling like you belong
  • Feeling respected and valued
  • Feeling supported
  • Feeling connected and having friends
  • Feeling engaged and actively participating

Being included in a group or community can make people happier and healthier.  When we truly include everyone, we all benefit.  People learn acceptance, better social skills, better problem-solving skills, and respect for others.  When we learn strategies to include children with disabilities, we learn how to meet the needs of every child, regardless of whether they have a disability or not.

We believe that it is a fundamental human right to feel valued and to have equal access and opportunity.  For us, inclusion is not an optional extra but at the very core of everything we do and everything we stand for.

Marches Family Network promotes 5 key principles to include every child

  1. Every child is unique; they learn and develop in different ways and at different rates
  2. All children and young people need to play.  Play is fundamental to the healthy development and well-being of individuals
  3. Children and young people learn and develop well in enabling environments, where their individual needs are met and there is a strong partnership between workers and families
  4. Children and young people learn to be independent through positive relationships and positive role models
  5. Inclusion has a clear purpose: equality of opportunity for all children and young people
