We provide specialist short breaks sessions specifically for children and young people with multiple and profound disabilities who require a minimum of 1:1 support. These sessions are tailored to meet the specific individual needs of the young people attending and offer vital respite for parents, carers and families, helping to strengthen family resilience. These children and young people have high level needs and require constant support. As a result, our youth team need to have specialist training to meet these needs, including gastrostomy (PEG) feeding, administration of emergency medication, epilepsy awareness training, paediatric first aid, and moving and handling training. The children and young people have opportunities to take part in so many activities, including sensory activities, WildPlay sessions and music and dance workshops.

Many of the children and young people we support cannot access universal services so, without projects like ours, they are at risk of being excluded.

We began this project in 2016 and over the past 3 years we have provided 550 places to children and young people with profound disabilities. The demand for these sessions has increased significantly over the last few years - in 2018/19, we provided 329 places for 47 children and young people across 20 sessions.

Any support towards providing these sessions would be really appreciated - thank you!
