Marches Family Network was established in 1982 under the auspices of Contact a Family as a small self-help parent group. We became independent in 1995 and have grown into the amazing charity that we are today, actively supporting over 170 families in Herefordshire, Shropshire and the surrounding areas.
We provide high quality respite care services for children with disabilities and special needs including Saturday play days and summer holiday play schemes which are extremely popular. We also provide support for the families of disabled children locally. Help varies from advocacy, advice, signposting to other services, help with form filling or a friendly face and bit of understanding. We run family outings too, a chance for parents to make new friends and share information.
Parents are often "amazed" when their children try something outside of their comfort zone, eg a zip wire! We try to enhance the lives of our children and their families. Disabled children are able to try something new and share the experience along with their siblings and friends.
Siblings make friends with other children "in the same boat" of themselves, relieving isolation anxieties and sharing experiences.
Children learn new skills and make new friends in a non-judgemental environment.
Families feel secure knowing that their children and young people are stimulated and understood by our team of trained, insured, CRB checked fantastic staff.
Children go all over the 3 counties and beyond (eg Cadbury World) on play day adventures as our families have pin-pointed geographical isolation as well as social isolation as a problem of living in rural location such Herefordshire.
We support children from the age of 3 through to 19, providing age and ability appropriate activities for ALL, while families get some valuable 'me time' and cost-effective, value-for-money respite.
